Walkersville’s Got Talent Opens Next Week
by Jalyn Jones
Walkersville is having its annual showcase, Walkersville Got Talent, on May 11th at 7 pm. There will be a number of acts such as singing, dancing, painting, short acts, and many more. There are about 30 performances that will be happening that night. “It’s stressful in a way but not as stressful as other productions we’ve put on this year,” said theater teacher Heather McFadden.
Last year we called it a Cabaret, but they changed it recently to Walkersville Got Talent. There wasn’t as many people as there is this year. There’s an intermission in between acts; you can buy snacks and enjoy the rest of the show. Auditions were held last week, with some re-auditioning this week. “It was a little nerve racing, but I only had to do thirty seconds,” said sophomore Rachel Boyd.
“I definitely see they’re ready, the auditions prepared them even though there were a lot of nerves. A lot of people are very talented and I’m excited,” said senior Rachel Wilson. “With all that’s going on you need to have communication — it takes time,” said senior Cody Strange, who is also one of the hosts for the show that night.
Like other productions that have been held at this school it takes a team and time to prepare these types of things, such as ticket sales, dress rehearsal, putting up posters around the school, and spreading the word. A lot of the kids here at the school are very talented; last year a student speed painted and when she was done she flipped over the canvas to show exactly what the image was she painted. Even one of the teachers participated in the show singing with one of the students. Tickets are sold at the door and everybody should come out and support everybody performing.
